Blackjack
So lately I’ve been playing a lot of blackjack at my friends’ apartment. We don’t play for money, but we do use chips to simulate the real deal. We have a 2-deck shoe, go by all the rules, and have fun with it. Sometimes we win big, sometimes we lose our shirts. The most I’ve “walked away” with so far has been over $300. I’m getting better. Blackjack is...

…because job security isn’t what it used to be.
I’ve received news that Starbucks is closing 300 more stores, on top of the 600 they closed within the last year. 100 of those stores will be international stores. They’re also cutting a crapload of jobs from the corporate office. I feel like at any moment, my job could just be cut and I’d be unemployed in under a...
Land it in the Hudson
livejamie:
An expression used to encourage yourself or someone else when it appears an endeavor is headed for a disastrous outcome (due mostly to external conditions). Based on when Sully averted tragedy by successfully landing US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River.
“The company is on the brink of failure, so let’s Land it in the Hudson.”
You saw this coming, don’t lie.
Mornings always seem to come so early for me… last night was a restless night thanks to ridiculous ideas and irrational thoughts. I guess that’s what happens when your other half is a long distance away from you…
It scares me, I think. The distance… it scares me more than anything. I have to keep telling myself it’s only X amount of weeks until he’s home again....
Lazy Monday
I was supposed to get up fairly early this morning (read: before noon) and do laundry, and clean, and go to the library.
I didn’t get out of bed until 2 P.M. I’m still going to do laundry and maybe clean, but I don’t know if I’ll make it to the library.

The Greatest Nights...
…are nights when I go to my friends’ apartment, and we all sit around and watch movies and eat pizza and play blackjack and drink our makeshift martinis (which consist of vodka and whatever we find to mix with it).
Last night we had Taka Vodka. We were watching Hannibal Rising. Yes, there was pizza, and cards came later. ANYWAY, on the label on the vodka bottle, it said “Mixes...
Nostalgia
…makes me sleepy.
Hello, Tylenol PM.
Goodnight, world. Tomorrow is a brand new day…
Dear You,
It’s been a while since I saw you last, even longer since we last spoke. I can still picture your face on that cold December night. I felt your eyes on me and had to turn around. And there you were…and there she was. You wore that stupid grin on your face… I looked away, too stunned to say anything and looked down. And all those horrid feelings came rushing...
Budget Crisis...
…in California.
Yeah, in about a week we’ll stoop down to “insolvency.” We fucking suck. Budget cuts EVERYWHERE.
THIS STATE IS HORRIBLE.
I want out.

Another List... Work Edition!
Until I decide to actually post something worth reading… HERE’S A LIST.
Top 10 Reasons Why I Love My Job
(in no particular order…)
1. The sweet, sweet smell of freshly ground coffee.
2. The sound that the espresso machine makes while steaming milk.
3. Connecting with AMAZING customers. [There’s a guy who comes into my store…his name is Sam… He has been...
I challenge you...
…to walk into your local Starbucks and pick up a Pledge card, stating that you pledge to do 5 hours of community service. Just five hours. That’s an afternoon of picking up trash in the park, reading to the elderly in a nursing home, volunteering at a food bank, etc. It’s not that hard.
Tell your barista “I’m in!” and you get a free tall cup of coffee[today...

Welcome, President Obama.
Inauguration Day, part 2
I lied.
I just turned on the TV.
THIS IS HISTORY, AMERICA.
Inauguration Day
I’m excited! I feel like I’m starting school in an entire new era.
Which I am.
I’m not watching anything having to do with today’s events. One because I’m already behind on starting to get ready for class; and two, I’m sure I’ll be hearing ALL about it later.
Here’s to a new President, a new semester, a new start.
Cheers!

Weird Dream
I had a weird dream last night [well several, but this was a doozy] where I was accepted to a university. I thought the letter said Stanford, but it said some other [and I’m sure ENTIRELY made up by my subconscious] university in Michigan. [Stately or Stewart or something…] ANYWAY, so I go to Michigan and it’s a huge mess. Buildings and people everywhere and weird lines to ride...

There was a celebrity sighting today (well, sort of), and guess who it was…
If you said Guy Fieri you’d be correct! We’d also accept “the bleached haired guy from TGI Friday’s commercials” or “the dude that pisses me off because as soon as I see him I realize that instead of another episode of Ace of Cakes, there’s going to be episodes of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dwho cares.”
He had...
Friendships.
After years of practice, I still feel like I can’t get it “right.” Something, be it big or small, is wrong at any given moment… There can’t be a period of time where things are just okay, great, fine-just-fine. After all these years, I’m still trying to get being a good daughter, good friend, good girlfriend, good barista, good student all right.
Something...

Inaugural Love List
As I said in the beginning of this blog [see entry for January 1, 2009] I got the idea of lists from a blogger named Meg Fowler who writes a very entertaining & insightful blog. I suggest you check it out. ANYWAY, she has this thing she does called a love list, usually on Fridays, and I figured I’d give it a shot.
So, here we go…
Things I Love…

My dad and my...

Cats
Folks, I’m a cat lover.
I have four beautiful tabby cats: Punkie, Binx, Scamp, and Casanova. Punkie is the only female, and the mom to the three others. Binx came from her first litter, in which only two kittens were born; one was adopted. In her second litter came Scamp and Casanova, and two females who were adopted. Punkie is almost 3 years old, Binx is almost 1, and the other two are...

lazyyy.
I haven’t updated in a couple days. I could lie and say I’ve been busy, but I won’t. I just haven’t had much to say, I guess.
Anyway, lately life has been… normal, I guess. Or dull. Something of that sort. The boyfriend went back to Arizona yesterday, and is at work currently. I’ve done nothing but sat around all day. My mom’s been bugging me to clean my...

A Letter to the [not so great] Texting Nation
Dear Text Conversation Initiator, I really find it quite irritating to receive generic text message greetings [i.e. “hey” or “hi”] and then not hear back from you [the texter]. This textee [person being texted] does not find it very fun OR courteous to not receive a response when she replies to the aforementioned GGT [generic greeting text]. If I receive a GGT and reply...

My Biggest Adventure
My biggest adventure: Being in love.
Yes, being in love. Not only being in love… but falling in love. The long road to where I’m at now, being with someone who I truly love, has been quite the adventure. Along the way there have been pit stops, and journeys off the beaten path. There have been many long phone conversations, hugs, kisses, tears, anger, laughter, happiness, fear, and...

You’re lying awake in your bed, you glance at the clock… time slowly passes. 2:30…3:27…4:42… in the wee waking morning hours you hear muffled screams and bass beats from the wall next to your bed. The muffled sounds of the stereo distract you from sleep. The sounds of the radio DJ anger you and you want to wake the disrespectful person who woke you and shake them...

Oh, insomnia!
Readers, I have insomnia. Bad. Waaayy bad. Like, I’ve been up since [I believe] 3 PM YESTERDAY and it’s now 6:30ish in the morning. Bah humbug.
I’ve been exploring Tumblr and checking out what everyone’s posting about and a lot of tumbls/blogs I’ve come across are short, sweet, to the point… and I’m not. I don’t have a character limit and, by God,...

Year in Preview
I’ve read a lot of blogs, and I’ve seen a lot of people do “year in review” posts of some sort. Going over all the major details of good things [and bad things] that happened the previous year. I think I’m going to reverse that and preview the year to come. The past in the past, and I think it should be left there. 2008 left some wonderful memories [and brought me...

Happy New Blog!
I’ve wanted to do this for quite some time now: start a blog! I’ve realized I have a lot to say and I need somewhere to share my thoughts other than overrated MySpace blogs and brief, 140 character Twitter posts. I guess you can say this blog is my Christmas & New Years present to myself.
And what a great way to start off this blog than on New Years Day! A clean slate! I have 365...
